Not long ago I read a joke ... It said all the politicians running for president are promising change to the American people. We send them billions and billions of tax dollars and they send us the change.
That got me to thinking: they all promise change. How about if they run on a promise of restoration rather than change? A restoration that would take us back in time to a place where things ran better, smoother and life was more enjoyable. Change? That, in...

More than 200 years ago, the Chinese on Formosa were having a difficult time stamping out the barbaric practice of headhunting among native Taiwanese inhabitants.
Because of the coming of the Chinese gentleman named Gaw Hong who had been appointed magistrate to the region, the practice was almost wiped out except for a few spots here and there.
He was a just man and a kind man. Soon he had won the hearts of all the people in the area. By his good dealings with...

Popular author and speaker Ken Blanchard sometimes tells a powerful story about Red, a corporate president who, as a young man, learned an important and life-changing lesson. Red had just graduated from college and was offered an opportunity to interview for a position with a firm in New York City. As the job involved moving his wife and small child from Texas to New York, he wanted to talk the decision over with someone before accepting it, but his father had...

We are living in some trying times. It is in these that we yearn for good leadership, and it seems that for the most part-it is in short supply. Whether it's our current government leaders, aspiring government leaders, under-fire CEOs of Lehman Brothers or Wachovia...a quality leader is, apparently, a rare bird indeed.
At this same time, our nephew is in the middle of his first season as starting quarterback on his 8th grade team. From time to time, as I think...

Not too long ago I made a deal with me. No matter now the day looks or what's in store for me, I wake up every morning by saying it's a beautiful day.
It does not matter. It's a beautiful day.
One day last week, as I woke up and looked outside at the sky, the trees were moving to the rhythm of the wind and the rain was coming down fast.
It occurred to me that there are many times in our lives that we...

Wishing to encourage her young son's progress on the piano, a mother took the small boy to a Paderewski concert. After they were seated, the mother spotted a friend in the audience and walked down the aisle to greet her.
Seizing the opportunity to explore the wonders of the concert hall, the little boy rose and eventually explored his way through a door marked "NO ADMITTANCE."
When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the...

Winston Churchill said, "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills." And humorist Bob Orben added, "That sounds a lot like our family vacations." And for some people it sounds a lot like everyday life.
The problem is not whether we who live in families will have squabbles, arguments and fights... Read More....

In any corner of the world,
In any society or family,
Man, boy, woman, girl
For those going through...
Something that seems hard to bear,
Some problem that you think is impossible to solve,
Some feelings of such great depression and despair
For everyone everywhere because at different points in our lives,
we all go through

This was in my e-mail box today and although no one in my family is celebrating a birthday today, I do have a 7 year old boy at home. And if you have a young boy at home, chances are this will ring true for you as well.
Today is my mother's 75th birthday.
My kids had today's date burned into their minds and under no circumstances would forget their grandmother's birthday.
"Such nice kids," you say. Yes, they are nice but there's...

You may remember the old Flip Wilson routine when someone asked the comic about his religion. He answered, "I am a Jehovah's Bystander." "A Jehovah's Bystander?" remarked his friend. "I never heard of a Jehovah's Bystander."
Flip said, "Well, they asked me to be a witness, but I didn't want to get involved."
In these troubled times, I think Edmund Burke is right. "The only...

Once upon a time, there was this girl who had four boyfriends. She loved the 4th boyfriend the most and adored him with rich robes and treated him to the finest of delicacies. She gave him nothing but the best.
She also loved the 3rd boyfriend very much and was always showing him off to neighboring kingdoms. However, she feared that one day he would leave her for another.
She also loved her 2nd...

There were a couple of items in the news today-one of which was discussed in-depth on Tanner's show this morning. Both stories should bang home a message-not only to the parents involved, but all of us parents who are not. That message consists of just two words: be better.
First off, in Michigan, Daniel Lee Cleland told the judge about to sentence him Monday for theft that his 6-year-old son had recently given him some advice for staying out of trouble:...

An old story is resurfacing about a young woman who entered a convent to prepare herself for a life of celibacy and service. The institution was one of a very strict order. Besides other regulations, the convent enforced a requirement of silence - not a word dare be uttered.
Mother Superior explained to the new recruit that this rule of silence was rigid. However, once every five years just two words could be spoken.
At the end...

Corporations go through a great deal to get a good name for a product. Businesses know the difference a good name makes.
In the Garden of Eden, Adam's job was naming things. It was the first Biblical occupation of man - Naming Things.
It could well be called, "The world's oldest profession." It is still a job we all have.

The next time your morning seems to be going wrong and the kids are slow getting dressed and you can't seem to find the car keys and you hit every traffic light, don't get mad or frustrated. Instead, be thankful as perhaps someone is at work watching over you.

Demographic experts tell us that there is a general spiritual awakening among people of various faiths. Some are returning to "organized" religions. Others are seeking spiritual answers along other paths. However it is done, people are realizing the importance of a healthy spiritual dimension to their lives.

Debbie takes our son, Hogan, to school every morning. About an hour later-upon her return-you can take it to the bank she's got some story about some wild thing she saw some nut do with their child in the car on the way to school. So when I read this today, I knew it had to be done.
In our city, every day I see parents in a hurry to drop their children off at school. If they would leave their homes five minutes earlier, they wouldn't have to rush and break rules or...
